LETTER WRITING CAMPAIGN AGAINST SANCTIONS IMPOSED ON ERITREA

UK Residents - Take Action Now!

The UN Security Council has passed a resolution imposing sanctions on Eritrea on the 23rd of December 2009, with full support from the British government, for allegedly providing financial support to the Somali insurgents and in relation with the conflict with Djibouti.  It is now very clear that such manifestly unjust sanctions are not intended to bring peace and stability, but to weaken Eritrea.

We believe that the British government has taken the lead role in creating, promoting and passing the unjust sanctions against Eritrea.

It is important that we make our stance clear by expressing our concerns and opposition to the unjust sanction to those in charge through our representatives.  We have compiled letters written by 12 concerned individuals which you could use as a template.  These letters can be found at:

Letter 1           Letter 2           Letter 3           Letter 4

Letter 5           Letter 6           Letter 7           Letter 8

Letter 9           Letter 10         Letter 11         Letter 12

It should not take you more than 5 minutes to send a letter to your MP.  Here are the steps.

1.  Go to http://www.writetothem.com/

2.  Type your postcode in the first page.

3.  On the third column, you will see the name of your MP.  Click on the name of your MP

5.  Copy and paste one of the sample letters and edit it to your liking,

6.  Sign the letter, preview and send the message.

Please urge your friends and family members to do the same.  Please also sign the e-petition to Gordon Brown asking him to take measures to repeal the sanctions.  The e-petition can be found at:  http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/eritrea-sanction/
